Inter-Coastal Electronics Inc. Earns 2007 Summit Award at Consona Customer Conference

ORLANDO, INDIANAPOLIS and Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 16, 2007—Consona Corporation (Consona), a worldwide leader in providing customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and services for the enterprise, announced at its premier customer conference, Consona Connect, that Inter-Coastal Electronics Inc. (ICE), a Mesa, Ariz.-based Relevant ERP customer and manufacturer of simulation, training and instrumentation devices for the U.S. and foreign militaries, as well as commercial position tracking and testing equipment, is the 2007 recipient of the software provider’s Transformation Award.

The Transformation Award, part of Consona’s annual Summit Awards, honors a customer that has been able to either reinvent its business or achieve a strong return on investment in a relatively short period of time. Recipients of the award submit both qualitative and quantitative data that illustrate how the solution has impacted the customer’s business model or overall business performance. Award recipients display significant business improvements and changes, such as unprecedented customer satisfaction levels, the introduction of new products and services, or increased sales.

ICE used to manage its business using a cobbled-together group of point solutions and Excel spreadsheets. The company had outgrown its existing business processes and was struggling with on-time shipment and budget constraints, complying with customer (government) project management requirements, efficiently meeting proposal deadlines, and a general lack of detailed production information at the unit cost level. With a goal of finding one system that could meet all their needs, the ICE team chose Relevant ERP, primarily because it offered strong manufacturing functionality integrated in with Department of Defense (DOD) cost accounting and project management features. What tipped the scales was a combination of functionality, strong industry knowledge, and support on the manufacturing side.

After implementing the Relevant system, ICE was able to completely transform its business, realizing the following returns:

  • A closer correlation between revenue and production unit costs, thereby extending the company’s government reporting capability.
  • Improvements in inventory utilization by an order of magnitude.
  • Improved scheduling and on-time delivery.
  • The capture of operating data and cost details, which helped the company create an environment of continuous improvement with new visibility and improved metrics.

“Data availability is probably the most important value we get from the system,” said Dan Horne, chief financial officer for ICE. “Having all of the information tied together with good reporting capabilities has really helped us improve our business, and is continuing to do so.”

“We are thrilled to honor ICE with a Summit Award for some absolutely tremendous achievements," said Jeff Tognoni, CEO of Consona. "ICE sets a standard for the commitment it takes to gain maximum return on a business system investment. The growth and success this company has achieved with our support reminds all of us at Consona why we're in business."
