Massa Chooses Relevant Business Systems' ERP for Work Breakdown Structure Capabilities

San Ramon, CA – September 28, 2005 Relevant Business Systems, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software provider to leading Aerospace & Defense, Engineer-to-Order, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul, Contract Manufacturers and other project-based firms, announced today that Massa Products Corporation has purchased Relevant’s Enterprise Software.

Massa Products is a company built on innovation. The company founder, Frank Massa, pioneered the design of air and underwater ultrasonic applications over fifty years ago and is considered the father of modern electroacoustics. Today, with ever more aggressive competition, Massa continues to maintain its technological lead through innovation: In 2006, Massa will introduce dozens of newly conceived or newly engineered products.

The DoD is a major Massa customer and as defense heats up, Massa is gearing for continued strong growth. To handle both the increased volume and a new product pipeline whose success is pegged to margin control, Massa looked to Relevant Business Systems for new enterprise software. Paul Hellar, Massa Sr. Exec. VP, led a Massa team that evaluated potential ERP vendors and identified the capabilities that the software would need to deliver. Key among those were:

  • Real time, project-based labor and material costs tracking.
Massa wanted to be able to aggressively manage all phases of product development and production. Relevant’s Project Control and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) enable real time visibility so project managers know if the project is on budget and meeting all project targets before budgets are overrun. Variances are immediately identified by work area so that corrective action can be taken in a timely manner.
  • Government reporting capabilities.
Many of Massa’s government contracts require purchasing and inventory to be maintained by individual customer. Labor must also be tracked by project, and often by subassembly, to comply with the stringent government reporting procedures required to substantiate progress payments. Relevant software was designed with these needs in mind and fully delivers against these requirements.
  • Sufficient flexibility to simultaneously track and integrate the financials from very different manufacturing operations.
Paul Hellar states, “Our product mix is approximately 50-50 between underwater and air and they have completely different manufacturing processes.” Revelant’s agility in accurately tracking and integrating the financials from these separate processes was an important consideration in Massa’s purchase decision.

After full due diligence, Massa chose Relevant and is now on track to complete implementation by year end. Paul Hellar believes, “With Relevant software to ensure that we meet our cost containment and reporting goals, we look forward to being able to focus on delivering the product innovation that has always been critical to Massa’s success.”
